Austria belongs with top-ranking European winemaking countries and producers of high-quality white wines, and Austrians are justly proud of their wines. The country predominantly produces single-grape wines.

Due to the rather cold climate, Austrian winemakers specialize in white wines. The best known and most widespread variety is Grüner Veltliner, followed by Welschriesling. However, the country also produces quality red wines such as Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch and Blauburgunder.

Josef Salomon - Weinviertel

The Josef Salomon family company with vineyards covering 4.6 ha was established in 1709 in the village of Falkenstein, in the north-east wine region 60 km north of Vienna. The place is situated in a valley and surrounded by over 2,000 ha of mixed forest. This gives rise to a special microclimate the deep loess and limestone gravel soils of which are perfect for many varieties of white wines.
